Mediterranean-style, cheerful furniture that puts you in the mood for a vacation: Vanderhus
As a brand, Vanderhus stands for outdoor furniture that inspires. It exudes a cheerful, carefree spirit that transforms any living space into a unique sanctuary. Furniture—including outdoor furniture—must suit the people who use it. As a manufacturer, Vanderhus is convinced of this. At Vanderhus, inspiration comes from the people who use the furniture and place it in their living spaces. Different travel destinations, diverse cultures, memories—all of this flows into the design.
Design That Stands Out – CGI Production in a Mediterranean Brand Setting
This outdoor furniture cannot simply stand in a hall - it is naturally presented in a suitable environment that matches the manufacturer's brand communication and is emotionally anchored through consistent visual storytelling. Materials, colors, shapes and surfaces are not what you would normally associate with outdoor furniture from this manufacturer. Vanderhus deliberately breaks away from familiar patterns. Only when design breaks new ground does the furniture allow individuality in expression, use and design of the living environment. This is the second time we have been commissioned to create CGI product visuals of furniture for this exciting outdoor manufacturer. Sunny, intense colors were to find a home in a coastal landscape under the Mediterranean sun.
The Challenge: Photorealistic Outdoor Furniture in Exterior Visualizations
Crafted with care in small batches, with products that—while not explicitly designed to match—can be combined very well with one another—that is the philosophy of Vanderhus from Oldenburg (Germany). Here, they understand that the furniture that used to be inside the house is increasingly finding its way onto the patio, by the pool, and into the garden. The outdoor furniture is designed to be just as cozy and inviting as indoor furniture. In other words: It doesn’t necessarily have to look like outdoor furniture. You can see just how much the CGI evolves from the pre-production stage to the final rendering in the before-and-after image comparison. We had the opportunity to create an outdoor 3D scene for this manufacturer and to 3D model the products.
Perfect Weaving – CGI Down to the Finest Detail
The biggest challenge, however, was modeling a wicker chair with all its details, which was to be shown from many different perspectives. The chair had to look convincing in both light and bold, dark shades and blend seamlessly into the same background across the various color variations. The subtle interplay of light on the chairs’ woven surfaces—some of which were in shadow—posed a challenge. This makes us all the more proud that our CGI artists were able to complete the task to our partner’s satisfaction.
The Spanish Coast in 3D—Atmosphere, Textures, and Mediterranean Light
The surrounding landscape is set along the Spanish coast and is as unique as the outdoor furniture we were able to place here, in full alignment with the manufacturer’s brand communication. Natural vegetation, a distant horizon, the sea, and air shimmering in the heat—a Mediterranean setting that is also reflected in numerous design projects on ArchDaily and served as visual inspiration for our CGI environment. For the 3D visualization, this meant digitizing various surfaces with vibrant textures, creating complex lighting scenarios—calculated using ray tracing —and working with a wide variety of materials.
