A high-poly 3D model is a model with a high polygon count that is used for static visualizations and 3D animations. These 3D models feature a high level of detail and can render realistic textures, shadows, and light reflections. However, due to their high polygon count, they are also more computationally intensive and require more resources—both during creation and playback. The Blender Manual offers a detailed explanation of the differences between high-poly and low-poly models. For consistent materials, we rely on PBR—Physically Based Rendering. Especially with high-resolution models, it makes sense to check the underlying textures using the checker for tileable textures.

Unlike a high-poly model, a low-poly 3D model has a lower polygon count. These 3D models are easier and faster to create and render. This makes them ideal for real-time video games, virtual reality apps, or applications such as online 3D configurators, where fast loading is required. For e-commerce/viewers, we prepare models in the glTF file format. The downside is that low-poly models have less detail than high-poly models.
