Before the Project Begins
A CGI project starts with product data, material references, and a visual concept. This guide explains which services to plan for and how to assess the results. Renderings are checked against the product references; photorealism alone does not prove product accuracy.

You need images for a product launch, a new collection, or your online store. Before you commission a 3D product visualization, it’s a good idea to have a clear idea of what the images should show and what reference materials are available. This guide will help you plan the scope of the project and evaluate the results.
What is 3D product visualization?
In 3D product visualization, a product is built as a digital model or prepared from existing CAD data. Materials, lighting, and camera settings determine the rendered image. A photorealistic rendering is not automatically a digital twin or a technical product inspection. See examples on our 3D product visualization services page.

When is 3D product visualization worth it?
CGI and 3D visualization are particularly useful when you need multiple views, materials, or product variants. The key factor is how well the models and scenes created for this purpose can be reused.
1. Realistic Presentation
A product image should clearly show the shape, proportions, and surface. Therefore, check the rendering against measurements, detailed photos, and material samples. Beautiful lighting alone doesn’t tell you whether seams, edges, or controls match the actual product.

2. Reusing models and assessing costs
An existing 3D model can provide the basis for additional views or variants. Whether CGI reduces production work compared with a photo shoot depends on the source data, material complexity, and number of images, among other factors. Use the CGI project planner to describe what you need. It does not replace an individual quote.
3. Flexibility
Perspectives, materials, and scenes can be specifically revised. However, changes to the product geometry must be incorporated into the model and re-evaluated. Visualization can support design decisions; it does not replace technical design or functional testing.

4. Present product details clearly
A close-up can illustrate the craftsmanship, while a room scene can show the context in which the product is used. For each image, determine which question it is meant to answer. Whether this leads to more inquiries or purchases also depends on the product offering, the target audience, and how the images are used.
Commissioning 3D product visualization: what services do you need?
A project can range from individual product renderings on a neutral background to an image series with animation. Before requesting a quote, clarify which models, materials, scenes, and file formats you need. At Danthree Studio, we connect product imagery with your brand’s visual language.
Staging Of Products In Brand Spaces
A brand space is a thoughtfully designed environment for the product. The architecture, furnishings, lighting, and composition should all work together. Creative direction and visual design determine which atmosphere and perspectives best suit your brand.
What the customer gets:

Photorealistic 3D Modeling Of The Products
Existing CAD data can serve as a starting point. If none is available, a model can be created using sufficiently detailed drawings, measurements, and photos. The level of detail required depends in part on how close the camera gets to the product. For Sedda’s Gibraltar outdoor collection, we modeled the furniture based on the images and drawings provided by the client and then staged it in a Mediterranean setting.
What the customer gets:
- 3D modeling based on the available product documentation
- Checks of proportions, edges, and visible details
- Preview renders for approval before further image production
Materials & Textures
In UV mapping, textures are assigned to a model’s surface. The scale and direction of a wood grain or fabric must match the product. Material digitization and shading then determine how the surface reacts to light. This principle is also explained in Adobe’s documentation on PBR materials. Physically based rendering does not replace the need to match the material to the reference.
What the customer gets:
- References for color, texture, and gloss
- Examination of Texture Scale and Material Direction
- Coordinated material variants for the image series
In our visualization studio, we can also render materials with lifelike accuracy
3D Product Visualization
Product renderings on a neutral background, close-ups, and interior scenes serve different purposes. A product rendering on a neutral background shows the product clearly. A CGI interior scene presents it alongside furnishings and lighting. Plan both around their intended use rather than the highest possible image count.
What the customer gets:
- Shot list with views and product variants
- Suitable crops for websites, retail, and campaigns
- Agreed Resolution and File Formats
- Clear association of images with their respective products

3D Animation / 3D Videos
3D animations and product videos can explain movement, assembly, or a function. They need their own plan for the sequence, camera movement, and duration. For a simple overview of materials, static product images may be enough.
What the customer gets:
- Concept and storyboard for the planned message
- Coordinated camera work and product movement
- Specified Duration and Output Formats
- Separate approvals for the planned sequence and final animation
Augmented Reality
Augmented reality allows a digital product to be superimposed onto a real-world environment through the camera view. This requires suitable 3D data optimized for the target application. A model designed for high-resolution rendering is not automatically ready for AR. The display and scale also depend on the device and application.
What the customer gets:
- Assessment of the Intended AR Application
- Optimization of geometry and materials for this application
- Verification of the display and scale in the target application
AR combines a digital product with a view of a real-world environment.
Documents, Process, and Approval: How to Plan the Project
First, gather the product data, required images, and visual references. Identify any information that is still provisional. This provides a basis for defining the production scope.
- Documents: CAD data or drawings with dimensions, detailed photos, material specifications, and a list of product variants.
- Visual Concept: Align the target audience, channels, image framing, and references for lighting and atmosphere.
- Model and Materials: Check the shape, dimensions, surfaces, and visible details against the reference materials.
- Approvals: Agree on responsibilities and correction steps before the entire series of images is produced.
- Output: Specify the resolution, aspect ratios, and file formats for the intended applications.
At Danthree Studio, suitable AI workflows can support backgrounds and image variants. Their use depends on the visual task. Product details and transitions must still be checked against the references. Read more in AI or CGI: differences in product images.
Applications for Manufacturers and Brands
The visual task determines how the images are produced. For furniture, home and living, and technical products, applications include:
1. Products in the Room
Interior visualizations, for example, show lighting fixtures, flooring, or built-in elements in their spatial context. The space enhances the product presentation. This does not involve technical building design.
2. Furniture, Home & Living
When it comes to furniture, it’s not just the shape that matters, fabrics, upholstery, and craftsmanship are equally important. Product variations can be showcased in a coordinated series of images. A well-designed brand space demonstrates how the furniture interacts with other materials and lighting.

3. E-commerce
For e-commerce product visualization, consistent views and clearly identified variants matter. Check whether product renderings on a neutral background, close-ups, and scenes showing the product in use answer the questions raised on the product page. Image resolution and crops should suit the platform’s requirements.
